We give high schools the behavioral research apparatus used in university labs, so students run original experiments instead of demonstrations.
The Advance Program
A maze costs less than a textbook order. Most schools still do not have one.
A Y-maze is three channels meeting at a junction. An animal starts at the bottom and chooses an arm. Run it enough times, under matched conditions, and a student has real behavioral data rather than a demonstration someone else already knows the answer to.
We buy the apparatus and give it to the school outright. No cash changes hands, no match is required, and the equipment stays.
Our first award
Enough rigs to run the trials
In January 2026, a public high school in New Jersey received Drosophila Y-mazes for the honors research course in its medical sciences magnet program. Students in that course design and run their own experiments on live animals, and present the results.
They had been sharing the few mazes the school owned, and cutting the number of trials to fit the period. Behavioral work needs repeated trials under matched conditions, so a shortage of equipment shows up first in the data and then in whether a project holds up at a science fair.
Their report on how it went is due back to us this school year. We will publish it here.
